Our Story

College Muscle Movers was born from a simple summer job. In 2008, Jerad Poling — a student at the University of St. Thomas — helped some family friends move, got paid for it, and had an idea: college students are strong, reliable, and looking for flexible work. People who need to move want someone who shows up and works hard. And the busiest moving season happens to be summer. Win, win, win.

Jerad and his co-founder Tim Olson launched CMM officially out of St. Paul the following summer. It was a scrappy start — truck rentals, a loft office, equipment stored in a van parked outside — but the foundation was solid. Fellow St. Thomas student Cameron Carson came on as the company’s first intern in 2009, formalized the accounting, and never really left. By 2011, Cameron had taken full ownership and moved the company into its first real warehouse.

What set CMM apart from the beginning wasn’t just the hustle — it was the belief that a moving job could be more than a moving job. Cameron and co-owner Andrew Roth built a development program designed to give young people real professional experience: leadership, communication, teamwork, and a track record they could take anywhere. That program remains a core part of who we are today.

CMM has grown a lot since those early days. In 2022, we began partnering with National Van Lines to help customers with long-distance moves across the country. That same year we introduced our On-Time Guarantee — arrive more than an hour late and you get $100 back — and started including 15 free Muscle Boxes with every move. In 2024 and 2025, we were voted Minnesota’s Best Moving Company.

We’re still locally owned and operated, still built on the same St. Thomas work ethic, and still committed to making moving better than it has any right to be.

CMM is also part of a growing family of home services brands. In 2020, our ownership team launched Keepsake PCO, specializing in packing, cleaning, and organizing. In 2022, Fixie Home Improvement was founded to provide handyman and renovation services. And in 2023, Dwell Home Services was created to unite all three brands under one roof — same quality, same reliability, one team to coordinate it all.
